The “Legends of Barry” Manifesto
Some of the response I’ve gotten to my first image in this series requires some clarification, so here we go.
For the record, I have tremendous respect and appreciation for Barak Obama. He is probably the most significant historic figure to live in my era. Usually the myths start about such a figure AFTER he is dead. The demonization and deification of this mortal being in our present time is destructive…. See More
He is just a man. A smart man, a compassionate man. But he is not Black Jesus, Black Moses or Black Satan. He is not a Nigerian Invader.
Enough. His job is hard enough. If you have never seen a series of annual photos of a President, you’ve never seen how the job steals your life.
So I am going after the myths, the subconscious desires that fuel the perceptions of most of us. In one way or another, we have fantasy expectations about Barak Obama. They have to go, or at least be challenged.
So I am not trying to improve on “Barak the Magic Negro;” I’m trying to call it for what it is.
It is a relief to have a grown up in the White House. The idea is Americans need to have a more adult perspective than they have had to for the past ten years.
Fox and MSNBC are in the legends business. We need to be in the reality business, given the challenges of our time.
That ringing sound you hear is me, belling the cat..
The second chapter for four in the first story arc of “Not Quite Here” is finished. Mike and Kiwi are forced to relive one of Mike’s earlier adventures to an audience provided by the Oracle. For more good clean fun, get out your 3D glasses (red/cyan), click the link above and have a good time. More coming soon.
-a game of sidewalks, chalk and bottle caps- for all ages. From the days when Mom really DID throw you out of the house and say “Play Outside,” this seemingly innocent pastime was a sidewalk academy for strategy, cunning and cold hearted ruthlessness.
This is my so called blog. In it you will find news about my work, my random ideas and things that catch my fancy.

Anaglyph Adventures
Welcome to the wonderful world of anaglyph images. Anaglyphs are 3D images that require red-cyan glasses for viewing. Today people get them from comics or movies.
3D Image Gallery
As I continue my journeys with 3D, some of the artwork will be story related, some will not. Here is the home for the stand-alone work.
Not Quite Here
This is my second venture into a 3D comic. It has been a great learning experience, a great challenge and my current obsession. Originally planned for three volume, the story arc now includes FOUR volumes. Lucky for me, the people working with me are exhilarating and ready for adventure. The story started as something simple and has evolved into something really powerful. So grab your glasses and come along.
Volume One: Plague of the Pigheads
Volume Two: Old Business
24 Hour Comic Book Day
24 Pages. 24 Hours. My first adventure with this national event.
826 Valencia Webtales Workshops
I am happy to be affiliated with the wonderful folks at 826 Valencia Street in San Francisco. I teach a series of digital storytelling classes called, oddly enough, Webtales. The results of the workshops are wonderful. The students digital stories are a mix of imagination, real events and the considerable talents these kids bring to the table.
Webtales: Real Life Adventures (2007)
Everyone has adventures. In this workshop, we told each other stories, wrote, illustrated and composited to create content for the web.
Good Quotes
I collect quotes. Some are inspirational, some are funny, some are wise. They are something of a mirror because the one thing they all have in common is they please me.
Experiments
Welcome to my playground. This is the home of half baked ideas, studies in technique and random efforts that might not make sense now but might be the start of something later down the road. You can think of this place as my attic.
SF Comix
An exercise in using the same artwork in every frame and just changing the dialog. Also a small meditation on life in a comic book store.

hey Stan,
Remember me, Frances? Well I am applying for SOTA for the Creative Writing program and was wondering if you could send me the webtale that I made ASAP via email.
Thanks,
Frances
Frances,
I am in the process of reposting all the 826 stories. I will get onto yours this evening.
Best of luck with SOTA. If you want a written recommendation, please let me know.
…And, NOW, for something completely (or mostly) different.
Hope all is well. Just found your site and wanted to say hey.
David
I bought a beautiful print of yours entitled The Wedding Ceremony & Dance Party, titled in pencil with your initials. Could you tell me the process? I think it is a chromolithograph, my guess.
Is this one of a kind, or about how many were printed?
Thanks, Nancy
Nancy,
This was a digital print and I can make more if you wish. Please let me know what you would like to do.
East Bay Open Studios starts this weekend. Perhaps we can chat then.
