We played a similar game but not with bottle caps. We used roller bearings. We lived near the old Autocar truck mtce depot. We would get discarded ball bearing and roller bearing devices. They would vary in size from a small ball bearing unit an inch or so in diameter and 1/2 inch high to a roller bearing for a wheel measuring 4 inches wide and 2 inched high. Our field of play was a neighborhood intersection. We only had 12 boxes, so 11 and 12 were on either end of the dead box.. Boxes 1,2 3 4 were the corners of the intersections. You started on an arrow drawn from the dead box pointing to square 1. Changies were allowed when you wanted to wack another player into the dead box or down the street. Changies meant changing the device you were using to a different one - larger or smaller. We played in teams. If a player was knocked into the dead box, he stayed there until his teammate knocked him out. When you were poison, you only needed to hit your opponent once to "kill" him. Playing without teams, you would need to start over if you landed or were knocked into the dead box.
