On October 3, 2009 a number of artists assembled at Mission Comics and Art to participate in “24 Hour Comics Day.” The goal was to create from scratch, without any preparation, a 24 page comic in 24 hours. For those of you unfamiliar with such things, this is a daunting task. To make things even crazier, I decided to do my comic in 3D using only the clip art on my machine and the photos I would take after the project began.

Not all of the attendees were participants. Some were there to party. One could easily tell the artists from the party folks. With very few exceptions, the artist stayed away from the keg of beer someone furnished; opting instead for the energy drinks, coffee and whatever means of stimulants they felt would be needed to keep them conscious and productive for 24 hours.

I’m afraid I did not complete all 24 pages. By the time I hit page 15, the writing was on the wall but not in my head. I was exhausted and completely trashed. It is clear that I will have to train for this event in the future. Nonetheless, here are the 15 pages I came up with. In the middle of this endeavor, I managed to write myself into a corner with the tale of two chickens. It took me a good half hour to figure a way out. I am pleased that I was able to achieve the poultry version of the shaggy dog story.

Next year- more coffee!!!

By the end I was pretty punchy. Still, not a bad effort.

I am in training for next year.

Watch Out!
